Over time, money has come to be generally accepted as the currency of choice; as the preferred medium of exchange that allows us to bring into our lives that which, without currency, we believe we could not experience. Truth is, rare is the person or the moment when we stop… take a breath… and ask ourselves: Is money the only currency?
How else might I choose to move through my world, seeking to create or embrace a currency of a different kind, that might leave me living a life with RIG… with respect (for myself and others); with integrity (in my way of being myself… with myself and others); and with generosity of spirit (trusting that my world is one of abundance and not scarcity; one of knowing that as I let go and allow flow, all will come back to me).
The currency of consciousness bears great significance in shaping a world, a life and ultimately, who we choose to become. To become conscious – to become mindful of this moment, this choice and the relationship of these to an emerging future – is a medium of exchange that makes it possible for us to trade a life of fear, scarcity and turmoil for one of abundance, clarity and authentic presence. In my personal journey of growth and evolution, I have discovered that growth need not be about ‘bigger’ or ‘more’ but with mindful presence, can become an expression of being able to connect, engage and pixelate into every moment… of every breath we take… and love living!
Gone is the need to scramble… to struggle and seek… to acquire or become. With consciousness, comes the willingness and ability to discern and create a meaningfully sustainable life. And that is something that money cannot buy!

Choosing to consider, understand and explore the notion of consciousness as a far more powerful currency; as a far more potent medium through which to manifest a life of our own choosing, can and will profoundly change lives. That does not mean that money is not present and it does mean that money does not take the lead in how we choose to be ourselves, in our world; and nor does it shape us – through its presence or absence! – as we live from one day to the next.
As you ponder this potential for yourself, allow these thoughts to drift through your awareness. Ask yourself:
- What is my relationship to money? Did I choose it to be this way; or did I inherit this way of being connected? When I consider the idea of ‘money’, who’s driving the bus? Am I at the wheel, with money as a resource? Or am I at the mercy of the absence or presence of money, in my life?
- When I consider my connection to money, if I were to imagine money standing across the room from me, what images begin to take form? What is familiar about that image; and where else in my life has this image had an impact on my life? And were I to imagine that a long chord flowed between me and money, where does the cord attach itself to my body? Which chakra – or energy centre – is linked to my money; and how does energy and information flow between money and me?
- And finally, what is my measure of conscious engagement with money? Is it a resource? Or is it a reflection of my personal value as a human being! Do I feel the need to accumulate and hoard money? Or do I trust that it will always be in flow, feeling free to take what I need and let go of the rest… trusting that there will always be more?
