I’ve been working with women for close to 30 years. Two things that have always stood out in my ever-deepening conversations with them:
- they are often shocked and terrified by the depth of their own rage; and
- they are pissed to discover that their well-honed and practised ‘appropriate-ness’ will not take them where they want to go. They are required to evolve into a whole new skill-set for engaging themselves and others.
Anger is the polite voice that rage seeks to speak.
Something happens when a woman recognizes, claims and fully owns that great force of creation, within her. Something happens when a woman grows a spine and chooses to stand up and declare: DONE!!!! In that nano-second, the world changes. Efforts and resources redirect. And the great discovery is made: it takes the same pound of effort either to tolerate ‘reality’ or to change it. Door No 2 has always seemed (to me) to be the more life-giving option.
Soraya Chemaly speaks with the wisdom that only experience can source. Well worth the brief moment it will take, to consider.
