If I may be so bold….
It’s tough, these days, to get through the bullshit.. and there is plenty of it to go around.
Years of it! Piled higher and deeper, as we lurch from one cultural/social/ shock to the next…. wondering… WTF?!?
I have no idea what the alternatives are for you. No idea what you think is true/real/etc or not. Not a clue whether you’re thrilled with the way things are going or scared out of your wits! But here is one thing I do know, for sure: it’s up to you. YOUR life is up to you.
For the vast majority of us, we do not seek to create change. Instead, we try desperately to protect what we already have/know/are. Batten down the hatches! Tighten our grip. Put up barriers to intrusions into our habits of body or mind. We don’t like disturbances in the landscape of what we already think is ‘real’ or ‘true’. “Bury the assets in the yard!” Do you get a sense of things narrowing and tightening? That’s because they are.
The paradox is: we can’t change anything by continuing to do what we have always done. We can’t create a new and different future from who we have always been. It’s not a ‘doing’ thing – it’s a ‘being’ thing… and most of us have not a hot clue what that means or how to make it happen. And that’s the trick: the ‘how to make it happen’ part. Without that, we flounder and flop around. Lots of action and not a soupçon of difference made.
If any of this resonates, here’s a quick list of ‘how to’s’ to consider.
Things to STOP:
- STOP having opinions on things you know nothing about from direct experience. Blah…blah…blah is a waste of your time and your life. You know what they say about opinions and belly buttons….
- STOP getting your information on the world ‘out there’ from others – and that includes family, ‘experts’ and any traditional main-stream media. Talking heads with an agenda and a massive platform.
- STOP holding your breath. It’s one of those things you don’t notice you’re doing – and you’re doing it all the time. That you do or do not breathe is already transforming your body’s ability to permit you to be intelligent in your choices. Be brave! Actually pay attention and see what you notice.
Things to START:
- START letting go. List your top 3 habits that do not serve you and notice the frequency of them in your life. Mindfulness is where the magic lies!
- START paying attention to the sound of your own voice. Notice what comes out of your mouth: whose voice is that? Where did you learn that? When was the last time you mindfully considered any of it?
- START creating time for you to just sit in silence for 5 minutes. FIVE MINUTES! No technology. No music. No others involved. Just you and the sound of your breath. Don’t be surprised if you get ‘edgy’… have tears… breathe differently. You may even start to shake. It’s all ok – just relax into it and let it take you wherever it goes. And when you’re ready, make it 10 minutes.
There is no need for grand gestures; no pressure for you to do or not-do. There is a moment in time – like this one – where a gateway presents for you to face into a different potential. That you do or do-not is up to you. And, truth be told, it matters not a whit to anyone else what you choose. However, it can profoundly change your life.
Good luck! Something tells me that we’re all going to need it.
Good morning, Louise
Just reading your latest post and emailing it to my friends!
A perfect message for me this morning as I take a few minutes of quiet breathing in my sunroom with my coffee. A special room in my new home with windows, looking out on the sun on the snow, the snow on the trees & down to the river. A space of great solace in my newly restored 1947 craftsman cottage. It is all about location and my large 5 bedroom house no longer served me. It was a busy year of selling, buying, purging & renovation/ restoring. So much freedom from all this transition. Am I fecund – YES!!! This new space I’ve chosen to create is such an invitation to breathe & just be. The energy & light in this space is one I am so happy to be in (& share with others)
Your post so resonated with me as your “ things to START” are a reflection of where I am at this day/ these days in my newly created space. It is important for me to be encouraged to continue on a path and to strengthen my commitment to it. Thank you Louise for sharing!
Namaste
Leona
Loved this blog Louise. I referred it to my coaching group and challenged them with your 1st Start – to start of Jan 2025. Thank you for this gateway to get through the clutter of BS
