As I emerge more into who I am becoming than who I have been; and continue to move more deeply into my ‘retirement’ intention, I will be moving my blog to Substack. All that is already here will be archived here… and for those who choose to continue along with me, you’ll be invited to subscribe. Will keep you posted on that. But for now…
====================
After a while, all language – spoken and/or written – loses its meaning. Definition fades. Edges disappear.. and what we end up with is meaningless, yet persistent and annoying, noise. A cacophony of alarm bells and provocations for panic, devoid of any room for curiosity, exploration, discovery or insight. Just noise! Don’t take my word for it – test if for yourself. Pick a word – any word – and repeat it out loud over and over again. Before you know it: noise.
Blah blah blah…. goes the pundit, talking-head ’news’ automaton.
Indignation! Rage! Outrage!
Blah blah blah… stories and narratives…. claiming right-thinking and indignation as the air beneath their wings. The story takes flight.. and we reach high, grab on and parrot (mindlessly and without the slightest effort to determine for ourselves what is/is not ‘real’) what is deemed politically correct by a preferred faction… becoming the tail of the kite that soars with the rhetoric and allows for a moment to drag out into hours and days and years.
Bottom line? Who cares! Not in a flippant way but – genuinely – who cares? Who cares about a bigger picture within which our current reality is unfolding. By way of example, Hitler is back in the news. Decades ago, those who declared that Hitler did NOT kill himself but had moved himself and key players to Argentina, were met with scathing condemnation of ‘conspiracy theorists’, and worse. Now, Milei has released classified documents confirming just that: Argentina hosted the Nazis and gave them safe haven… with the assistance of the US and allied forces. So much for the false presumption of ’sides’; of good guys and bad guys. It’s really all about a desired illusion… and the power and money required to sustain that illusion.
Are we stupid or just gullible? Are we mindful and discerning… or just desperate to appease and please the authority figures in our lives? I wonder how long it will take for us to realize that the Nazi ideology long ago infiltrated governments around the world. And, here we are.
It would seem that we are a species that would prefer to embrace meaningless noise rather than invest any effort in finding our own way through the mind-control bleating that fills our nervous system, day after bleating day, while we nod in agreement and think we know, condemning all who do not share our reality.
We know nothing beyond what we are told to know… and accept it.
It would be lovely if I could recommend a strategy; a path through the unknowing; or even offer the kind of enthusiastic support that brings you a sense of hope, trusting that someone else will figure it out. After 30 years, what I know for sure, is: that won’t happen.
I leave you in the good hands of Mark Twain who once said: “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”
And here we sit – knowing lots for sure, that just ain’t so.
Yes, I sure do not know….
Currently reading Madeleines Albright’s “Fascism”. History lesson indeed.
