I got an email today from a family friend who has recently been posted to the Far North. Lou left Ottawa in late ’08 and is now living and working amongst those in the community of Qikiqtarjuaq (spell that without looking!). Those of us who are in Lou’s life have the great fun of getting her newsy (and sometimes very funny!) updates and pics on life in the far north.
Part of Lou’s latest news is the impending arrival of a team of explorers, heading to the Polar Ice Cap, to determine accurate scientific data on the melting of the ice in that area. Scheduled to begin in February, the expedition is being led by highly experienced polar explorer Pen Hadow, accompanied by Ann Daniels (one of the world’s foremost female polar explorers) and Martin Hartley.
These are pivotal times. We encourage you to visit the website for the Catlin Arctic Survey. There, you’ll find information on the expedition, the people and its intention. This may well prove to be one of the most life-altering journeys of our time!
Also, be sure to check out the new video clip on ChoicePoints on this expedition. Hold its intention in your awareness and be sure to track for its outcomes. The implications of the melting of the Arctic Ocean’s sea ice – and the rate at which it is occurring – can profoundly change our world. In that, none of us will be untouched.
