It’s not the absence of grand gestures – it’s the presence of those small, daily betrayals of our own truth that leave us silent and desperate for some ‘other’ to stop it and/or change it.
While we wait, the pressure builds… inside us, where we live… as it becomes impossible for us to NOT notice our capitulation, yet again, to that which we do not want. Once again, rather than tell the truth, we curl in on ourselves and say what we think we should… or what we think will be ‘acceptable’ to some other… and allow the fecund moment of possibility to wither and die on the vine of potential, deprived of its intelligence ever making its way into the quality of our lives. The ripple of an authentic moment… able to disturb the placid and suffocating surface of the familiar… is stillborn.
With each passing day, we become more silent on the outside and more aggravated, disbelieving, enraged and hopeless on the inside. We ask ourselves: “Why doesn’t somebody do something?!?!?!?!?!?” And again, we buckle under the weight of our own reluctance to simply speak the truth, in the moment we are in.
We tell ourselves – though ancient and long untested – of all the terrible things that will befall us should we dare to take a stand for our inner truth. Stories we’ve been telling ourselves for decades of how it is far more noble for us to bite our tongue and go along to get alone. Nobility, we wear as a cloak to ensure that which we hide will not betray our comfort to a challenge that may risk retribution.
Consider, for a moment, letting go of the belief that creating a different reality demands grand gestures and influence of the masses. Dare to consider what might emerge if we each – in our own deeply personal and intimate moment – became willing to say out loud to another that which lives within us and demands increasingly greater effort to contain. Each of us, a powerful thought virus… leaving us wondering: what are we spreading? That, I will leave to you to ponder relative to the quality of your own Life.
It does not need to be a book or a new podcast or launching your own YouTube channel. It can be and it need not be. It is as simple as saying ’no’ instead of ‘yes’ when what lives inside you is NO! It is as simple as voting with your feet and choosing to remove yourself from a situation that you do not support and choose not to sustain.. no matter who notices your doing so. Sometimes, you need not do… you need only stop doing what you have so long done without desire or intention.
That voice inside you.. the one that speaks the truth of your experience where only you can hear… THAT is the voice I’m talking about. The one that does not pretend or deceive or betray its Self. That voice that, in its expression, is held in conflict with the voice that should present in a public forum. The voice that is devoid of politesse and political correctness and bullshit. THAT is the voice that will change your life.
Small moments. Small gestures. Small risks. And their outcome? A slight shift in the direction of the Mothership of your Being. Perhaps even imperceptible, to some. And before you know it, you’re moving in a different direction.
You don’t have to change THE world – you need only be willing to be authentic (i.e. be your Self and speak the truth of your experience; speak your truth about YOU) and in so doing, change YOUR world. If we each made that choice in direction, collectively, we would begin to notice something is different.
