The Beating Heart of Climate Change

October 4, 2019 by Louise LeBrun 4 Comments

As is likely for many of you, I am mindful of a ‘quickening’…. not just a bringing-on of more of the status quo, faster and more intensely…. but the arrival of a new heartbeat. Like the moment in the pregnancy when you first hear the baby’s heartbeat and you know – in every cell of your body – that this New Life is coming your way.

The heartbeat that I hear… and feel… is that of a new creation with a life of its own. No longer business as usual; and not the expression of what was plus 10%, we are entering a deep connection with that which is already viable… already unfolding as the expression of its unique form of Life… and we are now, all part of its fast-approaching arrival.

In this time, much attention is focused on all that is occurring ‘out there’. On the increasing climate chaos and aberrations rapidly becoming the new norm. People marching and waving personally-created signs with often penetrating slogans. And while thousands upon thousands do this, governments and corporations yawn and pour themselves another cup of coffee with their morning read. When we are talking with one who is deaf, even yelling at the top of our lungs does not make a difference.

It all goes on around me. I notice it and I place little value in its expression. I know… that is going to piss off some folks. So be it.  I see through different eyes.

I believe that we live in a sea of Intelligence; that wholeness is our essential Nature; and that ‘reality’ unfolds to lead us back to that wholeness.

I also believe that the greater the chaos or upheaval we are facing into, the greater our need to pause…. and consider: who have we been that brought us to this place? And who do we need to become to take us to a different place? The pause is essential… the need to just STOP… take a breath… and dare to step back and see ourselves in and as a part of the current unfolding. Without that pause, the knee-jerk reaction that conforms to the pressure to DO something… ANYTHING!!!!!…. to make us feel as if we can do something, will only give us more of what we’ve got.

Long ago, I remember saying to my Mom as she was ‘fussing’ about my brother: “Fussing is something you do so that you can tell yourself that you’re making a difference.” Fussing never made a difference for anyone.

Were I in charge of the world, I would redirect all energies and efforts to connecting with as many human beings as I can, with a simple intention: resilience and resourcefulness.

Change is here – we can hear its heart beating. And as that change grows, more and more effects will begin to penetrate the boundaries of our normal existence. Nothing we do is going to stop that from happening.  As we face into the long list of increasingly life-threatening forces that may well be coming our way, I know that the most dangerous of it all will be us, to each other. As our awareness of the inevitable density and intensity of change unfolds; and as we, in our deep states of fear, habituation and mindlessness behold their arrival, we will be neither resilient nor resourceful. In that jagged internal state, we will panic and become what we dread in the presence of each other.

I believe where potential lies is in connecting with others in a shared journey of deep discovery. That requires pushing the pause button and refraining from those knee-jerk reactions, fuelled by fear and emerging into some action – any action! – for the sake of some comfort that acting will make a difference. We would be far better served were we to explore how we got to be who we are; and how else we might choose to move through the world. Particularly, as the heartbeat strengthens, and its potential grows.

I continue to believe that corporations and their political minions will only entertain a course correction when the money ceases to flow into their coffers. They do what they do because we buy what they make. We are the ones filling their coffers.  We march… and then, we buy their crap.  We stop buying – they stop making. Its not rocket science and yet, we seem incapable of accepting how powerful we are! I wonder where the intelligence is in that.

So, to all those who choose to invest their time in seeking to make the powers that be do something to slow the beating heart of that which is viable and gaining strength, I say good luck. I choose to direct my attention to what I trust will become essential in the times to come: resilience and resourcefulness. I have learned from 30+ years of my own evolution and from working with others, that is a solitary journey that one can only take for one’s Self AND it can be taken in the good company of others choosing that journey for themselves. In that, there is great strength. And one thing I know for sure: I need not fear the human being awake to the necessity of their own evolution.

      Hi Anne,
Thanks for taking the time to share that thought – much appreciated.
Perhaps chaotic times call for radical thinking. Now seems like a good time…. 🙂
