Memory Lane: Finding Your Voice

August 28, 2017 by Louise LeBrun 1 Comment

In my close-to 30 years of working with women, far fewer women actually don’t know what they want than there are women who know… and just won’t tell. That’s a tough one: when you think that others don’t want you to have what you want or that others would turn away from you if they really knew the truth of who you are. And yet, in all those years of working at deeply intimate and personal levels with women, I have yet to meet one for whom choosing to live a more meaningful life has NOT resulted in their lives getting better! Not only that, the lives of the people they spend their time with also change and improve!

We do indeed, have choice. We get to choose how we live: standing in the ‘now’ and making those choices that will reflect what we know from who we have been in the past; OR standing in the now and making the choices that will move us forward into who we are choosing to become. Either way, the choice is ours to make and the outcomes are ours to be lived and relived.

It’s not always easy and it’s not always fun. And choosing mindfully and mobilizing intention is what makes the difference in our lives.

Today’s conversation is about finding that place to stand to be able to reconnect with that inner truth and become willing to speak it out loud. It’s not so much that the inner voice has left us (we are often too aware of the internal dialogue that we’re having with ourselves that is sometimes making us nuts!) it’s more that the voice we hear ourselves speaking outside of us far too often does not match what the voice inside of us is saying.

The following closing thoughts can be found at the end of:
Episode 3 of ‘Reclaiming Your Self: Women Unedited and Engaged!’ on the topic of ‘Finding Your Voice‘.

And as you move into the coming days, here are three things for you to keep in mind as you live your life… being awake and aware… and noticing the moments that are your invitation to allow yourSelf to become the ‘more’ that you already know is there, waiting to be claimed.
Space… Movement… and Flow.  Three simple words that can offer you such acceleration along the path of your own evolution!
  • Space… is essential to the possibility of a new thought, a new intention or a new choice.  Without Space, growth becomes impossible as who we have been bumps up against the edges of our own limitations, making it impossible to stretch or expand beyond what we already know and what we already believe ourselves to be.  Space… taking a breath and pausing between words; taking a chance and trusting the question rather than insisting on any answer;  allowing ourselves to be still between thoughts and between choices becomes the invitation for us to invite and allow new insights to be birthed and perceptions to be considered, expanding into new perspectives that hold the potential to transform our lives.
  • Movement!  Movement is a sign of life!  As Space expands, pressing out the edges of  what we have come to know as ‘truth’ or ‘fact’, Movement is awakened; and we begin to stretch and reach for what we want!   We take a chance and open our hand,  letting go of what we don’t want and  relaxing into new ways of ‘doing’ and ‘being’.  With Movement comes the opportunity for us to see new things; to hear those thoughts and voices long ago pressed out of our own awareness ; reaching up and out and beyond what we had once considered to be the unquestionable edges of our reality.
  • As as we open and expand and engage, with that Movement comes new life!  And sustained Movement, over time, becomes Flow.  Flow is essential for health and wellbeing of body, mind and spirit.  Flow ensures that continued unfolding,  preventing Life from becoming clogged with old and tattered beliefs; or getting stuck in the gooey morass of our long-told stories that neither resolve nor transform.
Space… Movement… Flow.  All of it begins with the willingness to let go; to loosen our grip – fist clenched and fingers curled tightly around what we think is all that we have – coming to discover that only in opening our hand can we create the welcoming Space that makes it possible for us to receive other than what we already have.
