The Gift that is the Burden of Mind

March 8, 2018 by Louise LeBrun Leave a Comment

I am coming to better recognize and understand the depth of my agitation around all that is unfolding in my larger world. I know this process well as it echoes what it was like in my house when I was growing up.

Stuff happened. The more significant it was, the more we pretended it didn’t matter or worse, had not happened at all. Or we just looked away. The idea was that if we did not look… if we did not see it… someone else would tend to it or it would just go away. Like today: we pretend it’s just weather. Yet, in that much deeper place where we are alone in the stillness of our own thoughts, we all know it is so much more. We have the ability to manipulate time and how we experience it. Mind allows us to be fully in the moment of the ’now’ and/or we can be several decades into the future, knowing fully in tissue the truth of its experience long before collective agreement of it, is in place.

All is first filtered through and expressed from mind. This is both our gift and our burden. My mind – your mind – is a deeply intimate, personal and unique shaper of experience. Mind is for me – like it is for you – something that as an adult, only I can shape. Only I can choose to change my own mind. Yet, before I can do that, I have to first own how, in its early days, it has already been shaped. In this, I might separate truth from habit and free myself from being hostage to the existing limitations that heavily veil the power of my own ability to choose…. mindfully, meaningfully and without compromise. Ultimately, I must be both willing and able to do both.

The paradox of our existence is that our greatest gift is also our heaviest burden to bear. Like freedom, intimate ownership of deep mind requires vigilance, perpetual curiosity and a desire for it that is greater than the exhaustion that is often required to retain it.

Now retired, I continue to let go of what has been and move into the next layer of my own evolution. I recognize that agility of mind to shape and reshape perceptions and attending choices, is essential to living fully and living well. I encourage you to consider that for yourself.

Like life, the Decloaking and Living Authentically audio files are what they can only be: a Self-directed experience of a deeply personal journey of mind. They were created with an eye to the future. With intention, they offer up an exploration of the process of mind that recognizes and respects that only you can effect the change you desire in your life… and they can show you how to go about doing just that. These will not define you and they will help you discover how to redefine yourSelf.  And now, I let go of these.

We cannot teach our children what we ourselves are unable to live.
