Mental Health: A new view from a different window

Episode 65 – Reclaiming Your Self ~ 11/06/02 ~ Mental Health: A new view from a different window

Sometimes, because we don’t know what else to do instead, we just keep doing the same-old/same-old, hoping that one day we’ll be surprised and it will have made a difference. Despite the ever-increasing use of pharmaceuticals without results; and the frequently compromising and sometimes deadly consequences of doing just that, we persist… devoid of alternatives and unwilling to simply give up and settle for the misery we have come to know so well.

Often overlooked in the desire to assist and support others, are the challenges associated with Mental Health professionals tending to their own needs and interests. Staying well while steeped in the perceived ‘unwellness’ of others can be a far greater challenge than we think.

Join Louise and two women who have chosen to explore alternative ways to contribute meaningfully to their field of practice; while committed to staying well, themselves. Sometimes controversial, and always insightful, pause to consider that what we know we know does not always serve us in navigating unknown territory. Sometimes, we have to stand back far enough to be able to see ourselves.

In conversation with: Ella-Jean Schatzmann and Nancy Hanlon– Mental Health professionals with years of experience and boundless hope! Both Ella-Jean and Nancy have completed Engaging and Awakening Others – the second five-day WEL-Systems® intensive for accelerated evolution.

Ella-Jean Schatzmann is a Registered Social Worker in the province of Alberta (1999), committed to working with those who are mentally and emotionally ‘unwell’.  Since 2006, she has been working in a hospital setting as a Mental Health Clinician.

Nancy Hanlon has been a registered social worker since 2001, and has been present to many conversations with women involved in the medical and mental health systems.
